Imphal, August 9(EMN): Six months old child in Manipur who was suffering from hydrocephalus, a rare fatal condition that makes the head swell, has been evacuated to state run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital in Imphal on Tuesday. JNIMS Hospital, Superintendent Prof. L Ranbir Singh said after their arrival here, ‘we’ve conducted necessary tests like MRI, CT scan and other tests for free of cost’. “After completion of the tests, the state health authority is planning for operations”.
The doctors confirmed Mimin’s case as that of hydrocephalus, a condition that causes cerebrospinal fluid to accumulate in the brain leading to extreme swelling and a build-up of pressure. The child’s parents have been advised to take him to a better equipped hospital by the doctors.
Earlier in the morning his mother Nengneithem along with three relatives were escorted to JNIMS hospital from their border village by the state health department officials. Mimin is the youngest of six siblings.
A student organisation functionary who has been assisting the boy’s family at the hospital when contacted on phone said that the operation may take place tomorrow at RIMS. The operation of such kind is said to be very expensive. The state authority is supporting the family for the operation as per the directive of state health authority, sources added. This is the second such case in Northeast after a baby girl from Tripura died two months ago at the age of five after Delhi based private hospital conducted operation for free of cost in 2013.
