Manipur fully prepared for third wave of Covid-19 – Biren Singh

Imphal, Sep. 1 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday said that the state was ‘fully prepared’ even if the third wave of Covid-19 comes to the state. Stating that Manipur now had enough oxygen plants, hospital beds, manpower and equipment, he said that the 200-bedded Covid hospital developed by DRDO was ready for inauguration.
Biren Singh was speaking at the inaugural function of two bridges over Imphal River and the southern pavilion of Luwangpokpa Multi Sports Complex, Luwangsangbam in Imphal East district.
The two bridges were constructed over Imphal River at Lairikyengam Leikai-Heikrumakhong and Keisham Mapa-Kairang both in Heingang assembly constituency under the PMGSY scheme while the southern pavilion of Luwangpokpa Multi-sports Complex was constructed with NLCPR funds of DoNER Ministry.
In the day’s function, Singh also announced that INR 20 lakh would be awarded to Jiribam for becoming the state’s first district which has achieved 100 per cent vaccination with first dose against Covid-19.
He also mentioned the development of various sports infrastructures in different parts of the state in the past four and half years by the present government. He also stressed the need for prioritising sport disciplines which were suitable to the physique of the state natives. The chief minister also mentioned the need for creating suitable posts to properly look after and maintain stadiums located at different parts of the state.
In his speech, Public Works Minister Biswajit Singh said that the younger generation inherited sports culture from the visionary forefathers, who preserved local grounds. Highlighting that the biggest achievement of the present government was peace, he added that there would be development only when there is peace and harmony in the state. On the other hand, Sports Minister Letpao Haokip stated that it was ‘rare to find such a spacious and well-located playground in the Imphal area nowadays’.
He also announced that floodlights would be installed at the complex soon as the tender process had already begun. Ministers S Rajen (Education), O Lukhoi(Agriculture), Th Satyabrata(Consumers Affairs), Deputy Speaker K Robindro, Manipur Buildings and Other Construction Workers’ Board Chairman H Dingo, Advisor to CM (Health) Dr. S Ranjan, Imphal East Adhyaksha P Bimola, Manipur Development Society Chairman M Asnikumar and N Hiyainu were present at the inauguration function.
