Imphal, Jan. 26 (EMN): It was one of the biggest in the history of Republic Day celebrations in Manipur. Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh hoisted perhaps one of the largest tricolour s ever hoisted in the Northeast. The state celebrated the 69th edition of the Republic Day on Fri.
The monumental national flag measured 30 ft by 20 ft. It was arranged by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Imphal airport. The flag was hoisted on a 100-ft mast at the Imphal International Airport premises on Fri. The mast has operational lights on the top. The flag will be illuminated with flood lights so that it is visible at night, according to official sources.
Speaking during the occasion, Chief Minister Biren announced that a flag of similar size and height would also be installed at the Civil Secretariat in Mantripukhri in Imphal after its inauguration.
According to the chief minister, Republic Day being celebrated in all the districts of the state as in other parts of the country, was a testimony to a ‘strong and united India.’ “We need to live together and help each other in order to sustain this unity and strength,” he said.
At the AAI’s Imphal airport and Airport Security Group, the Imphal airport unit of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jointly organised the day’s function.
