Manipur emerge overall team champ

Host state Manipur emerged overall team champion by winning a total of 27 medals including 13 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze at the end of the 4-day 12th Junior National Wushu Championships, which concluded at Indoor Stadium of Khuman Lampak sports complex in Imphal this evening.Manipur was followed by Madhya Pradesh with 24 medals including 12 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze and Punjab with 12 medals including 2 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze. Public Health Engineering Department minister I Hemochandra, Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya were the chief guest and president of the closing function. SAI North Eastern Regional Centre Director Dr Subhash Basumatry and DIG Clay Khongsai also attended the closing function with the dignitaries of Wushu Federation of India.
Neighboring Assam wushu team managed to bag three gold and eight bronze medals. The gold medal winners are Kalyani Brahma (60kg), Samsri Uzir (56kg) and Amina Khuzur (45kg) while the bronze medal winner players include Padmoni Narzary, Swrang Mushahary (below 52kg Sanshou), Santoshi Limbu (below 48kg Sanshou) and Bhaigye Rani Goyang (below 48kg Sanshou). Padmoni won two bronze medals in Taolu (Changquan and Gunshu). Amina Khuzur (45kg) also entered the finals of Sanshou event.
Mention may be made that a 17 member team of Assam participated in the championship with the hope of winning four gold medals. Wushu players from 27 states and union territories across the country participated in the championship.
