Manipur: Elaborate security arrangements made for Republic Day

Necessary security arrangements have been taken up in Manipur to ensure peaceful celebration of Republic Day in the state.

Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur’s Police department, LM Khaute said, “We’ve started making elaborate security arrangement for maintenance of the law and order situation in the state of Manipur in the run up to the Republic Day celebration.”

“Almost on a daily basis, cordon and search operations have been carried out, frisking and checking have been step up all over and the district level security coordination committee meeting has been initiated so that the combined effort with security forces and police should deal positive results in maintaining internal security and law and order,” DGP Khaute said on the sideline, while inaugurating the Manipur police dog squad in Imphal on Monday.

Meanwhile, as part of security measures taken up ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, a team from Imphal West District Police led by Superintendent of Police, K Meghachandra Singh of Imphal West District, Additional SP (Ops) Amarjit Lamabam, Deputy Superintendent of Police (R) Md Riyajuddin, Officer-in-Charge M Sudhir Meitei of Singjamei police station and Inspector E Ayangleima of Women Reserve, along with two police commando teams and police personnel from Singjamei police and reserve line conducted cordon and search operation at Singjamei Oinam Thingel area in Imphal West district on January 20.

In the operation, altogether 241 persons (157 males and 84 females) including 11 tenants were verified, said a police source. After spot verification, seven persons including three bailouts and four tenants were picked up for further verification at Singjamei police station. Later they were released after proper verification.

A police team from Imphal West District also conducted verification of the occupants at seven hotels in the busy Paona bazaar area in Imphal town from 8.30 am till 10.45 am, the source added. No one was picked up during the verification.
