Manipur Covid-19 tally rises to 83; lockdown to continue

Imphal, June 1 (EMN): Close on the heels of announcing continuation of lockdown in the state till June 30, Manipur government’s spokesperson Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam on Monday said there will be complete lockdown and curfew in all containment zones, as notified by the concerned deputy commissioners, till June 30.

Curfew will also be imposed in Imphal city and other district headquarters from 2 pm to 5 am on all days till June 15, subject to further review depending on the situation. While in respect of other areas, there shall be curfew from 5 pm to 5 am till June 30, he said.

Briefing the media persons, Radheshyam said prohibited activities will be re-opened in phase-wise manner in areas outside containment zones, adding that not a single case of community transmission has been reported so far and the government has been able to contain the disease with the full support and co-operation of the public. He further appealed to the people to follow the guidelines and extend maximum support and co-operation.

He stated that private schools are using social media platforms like WhatsApp as part of teaching tool to help the students, and keeping in mind that online classes are not a feasible option for the government school students, the Education department has uploaded chapter-wise and class-wise lessons and explanations on YouTube, www.lairik.net and www.laireek.net so that students of all schools, including those in government schools can avail study materials according to their convenience. He said regular classes are also being conducted through AIR programmes in order to facilitate all sections of students in the state.

He said that the state government has assessed the situation arising out of sudden increase in the number of positive cases in the state from among the people returning from outside.

Meanwhile as per reports from state’s covid-19 common control room, the Covid-19 tally in Manipur has increased to 83 while the active cases increased to 72. So far, 11 patients have been discharged from hospital after recovery.

According to a press release, four persons were confirmed as Covid-19 positive at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), while three more persons were confirmed for similar case at VRDL, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) last night on Sunday night.

Five more Covid-19 positive cases were reported on Monday, three at JNIMS and two at RIMS, taking the total cases to 83. Informing that their conditions are stable and they will be shifted to the Covid care facilities at RIMS and JNIMS, the official statement informed that the concerned district authorities have taken up necessary measures like containment and contact tracing.
