Manipur Congress spokesperson in trouble for alleged use of ‘offensive language’
IMPHAL — Disable People’s Rights Organisation Manipur (DPROM) has requested Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manipur to take action on Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesperson P Bankimchandra for using “offensive language” during an open debate on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stand on Manipur issue in a local TV channel on April 9.
General Secretary Ng Sangthonbou Newmai of DPROM, speaking to the media here on Friday, said that they have submitted a letter to the CEO Manipur in this regard.
In a letter to CEO Manipur, the DPROM stated that political parties and their representatives are advised not to use derogatory/insulting references on disability or Persons with Disability (PwD) during any public statement/speech, in their writings/articles/outreach material or political campaign as per the advisory of Election Commission of India.
‘In the light of the above advisory, we would urge the CEO Manipur to speedily act against the MPCC spokesperson for violating Rights of the PwDs Act 2016,’ read the letter.
