Manipur: Committee formed to address Loktak Lake issues

Imphal, May 30 (EMN): An Expert Advisory Committee (EAC) to formulate a Long Term Perspective Plan (LTPP) for Loktak Lake and its associated wetlands for conservation and management, to address the issues related to fast changing ecological situation and their impact on social/economic condition of the communities dependent on them has been formed.

The committee will deliberate on the issues taking into account all the relevant perspectives and will submit its suggestions/recommendations in the form of a detailed report to the LDA within three months from the date of issue of the order.

This was announced during the felicitation of newly appointed Chairman of Loktak Development Authority (LDA), M Asnikumar at Toupokpi in Manipur’s Bishnupur district today.

Earlier, during the felicitation, Asnikumar appealed to all the staff of LDA to work with dedication and discipline, while performing their duties and responsibilities and focus on creating a conducive work environment. 

He also stressed on the magnitude of the task of preserving and maintaining the lake, which holds huge socio-economic and cultural significance in the region. He added that the participation of lake dwellers and local communities are crucial in the conservation mission as they share a unique and close bond with the lake.
