Imphal, May 7 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the Covid care centre set up at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong in Imphal West district and took stock of the arrangement being made at the centre.
It informed that the centre with the capacity of 600 beds would start operating by May 8.
Deputy speaker Kongkham Robindro, advisor to chief minister (Health) Dr. Sapam Ranjan and principal secretary V Vumlunmang accompanied the chief minister during the visit.
Biren interacted with deputy commissioner of Imphal West district, Th Kirankumar and the health department officials about the ongoing arrangement at the centre. He also discussed matters regarding cleanliness, proper disposal of waste generated and duty roster of the health workers to be deployed at the centre among others. He also appealed to the doctors present to render their services with much dedication and commitment as they have a crucial role in successfully fighting the pandemic and saving the lives of the people.
Later the team headed for Babina Specialty Hospital at Jail Road Sajiwa, Imphal East district and had a look over the arrangement made at the hospital for treatment of Covid patients. He was quite happy to see the infrastructure and arrangement made for accommodating Covid patients and their treatment. The hospital has managed to provide around 30 beds for treating Covid patients.
Sharing the information in his facebook post, Singh wrote, “Visited the Covid Care Centre being set up at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong in Imphal West and took stock of the arrangement being made at the centre. The centre, which will have a capacity of 600 beds will start operating by tomorrow evening. Also visited Babina Specialty Hospital at Jail Road, Sajiwa, Imphal East and had a look over the arrangement made at the hospital for treatment of Covid patients. Glad to know that the hospital has managed to provide around 30 beds for treating Covid patients. Also paid a visit to the newly constructed Iland Hospital located at Canchipur and looked at the infrastructure and facilities available at the hospital. The hospital will also be used for treatment of Covid patients very soon.”
“I have been limiting my on ground inspections for some time as my visit generally tend to draw certain number of officials and general public but when my people are facing a difficult time, I can’t just sit back in my bungalow to review the preparation that are being taken up across the state. Happy to be at service for everyone in this challenging times”, he added.
Manipur records 600 Covid cases in 24 hours
Manipur on Friday reported 600 new Covid-19 positive cases, the highest single day spike of the year taking the state’s total infection tally to 34,333 besides increasing the total number of active cases to 3506, officials sources said.
The testing were done at 28 testing centres across 14 districts of the state and maximum numbers of positive cases were reported from Imphal West (211) and Imphal East (171) districts according to a press release issued by Dr. Kh Sasheekumar, spokesperson of the state health department on Friday.
Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours two persons from Kakching and Imphal East districts expired at JNIMS hospital in Imphal while 83 recovered. As a result, the state’s total cumulative number of deaths increased to 449 and the recovered persons to 30,378 with the recovery rate reduced to 88.48 percent, sources said.
