Manipur CM unveils Meidingu Narasingh statue

Imphal, June 16 (EMN): Stating that it is necessary for the present generation to remember and honour the sacrifices made by the forefathers in building the land and following in their footsteps, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh unveiled a statue of Meidingu Narasingh at Western Gate of Kangla Fort in Imphal on June 15.

Singh was speaking at the function wherein artiste of the state were also felicitated and provided assistance under Chief Ministergi Artistessingi Tengbang (CMAT) 2022, a scheme to provide assistance to artistes.

He further explained that earlier, there was a statue only of Maharaj Gambhir Singh at Maharaj Gambhir Singh Samadhi Complex, Canchipur, but in remembrance of the Seven Years Devastation, statues of Meidingu Narasingh and Sana Herachandra were installed and honoured.

He also informed that he has held meetings with Manipuri filmmakers and discussed making films on the life of Maharaj Kullachandra to celebrate his courageous spirit and the Seven Years Devastation.

Regarding the implementation of the CMAT scheme, he said that, “We have neglected the state’s artistes for long although we always say that our art, culture and sports put us on the world map. So, the government has launched the CMAT and pension scheme to recognise renowned artistes and encourage them”.
