Imphal, May 4 (EMN): Manipur chief minister, N Biren Singh, has thanked the Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, Yangthungo Patton, for extending help in finding an alternative road in Nagaland for the transportation of the oxygen from Assam.
“Many many thanks to Mr Yanthungo Patton, Hon’ble Dy. Chief Minister of Nagaland for helping us even in the late hours last night at midnight. Imphal-Dimapur road was blocked, however Mr. Patton had the courtesy to attend my call at midnight and helped to get an alternative route to ensure that the oxygen cylinders are delivered at Imphal. Also, would like to thank the Nagaland police personnel who have given us the required assistance. Thank you for being a good neighbour,” Singh wrote in a facebook post on Tuesday.
Biren also thanked the Assam chief minister Sarbanand Sonowal and minister Himanta Biswa for extending help in getting oxygen. In a tweet on Tuesday, Singh wrote, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Shri @sarbanandsonowal ji and @himantabiswa Da for allowing us to procure the much needed oxygen from their plants at Nagaon and Silchar. Your support at this juncture speaks volume about the cooperation amongst our states in NE region.”
Meanwhile with the sudden rise in the number of Covid 19 positive cases in Manipur, the state authority started to re-activate nine Covid care centres across seven districts of the state to accommodate around 1000 persons for their treatment, official sources said.
The newly re-activated Covid care centres include 235 bedded Covid Care Centre exclusively for females set up at Indoor Hall of Bal Bhawan along with another 200 bedded at National Sports University Hall both located at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal.
The minister of Forest and Environment, Awongbow Newmai, also chaired the Covid-19 review meeting at Tamenglong district headquarters, 50 km west of Imphal today. During the meeting, the minister appealed to the public to take responsibility for sharing the Covid appropriate behaviours besides encouraging the citizens of the hill district to take the vaccines.
Similarly, newly appointed Deputy Commissioner Krishnakumar of Bishnupur district also chaired a meeting at the district headquarters, 30 km south of Imphal today. Later, DC Bishnupur joined by police officials also visited District Hospital and oxygen plant site in the Bishnupur.
On Tuesday, Manipur recorded 433 new Covid-19 positive cases, the highest ever single day spike figure of the year taking the state’s total infection tally to 32,956 besides increasing the total number of active cases to 2391, officials said.
The new positive cases were detected from 26 testing centres in 14 districts of the state. The maximum numbers were reported from Imphal West (183) and Imphal East (108) districts, a press release issued by the spokesperson of the state Health department Dr. Kh Sasheekumar stated on Tuesday.
Two more persons-one each from Bishnupur and Thoubal districts, expired due to Covid-19 at a hospital in Imphal in the last 24 hours. As a result, the state’s total cumulative number of deaths stand at 424, it said.
Besides, 30,0141 persons including 111 on Tuesday have recovered so far.
