Imphal, Sep. 28 (EMN): With the first medical college among the hill districts of Manipur, Churachandpur district has now been selected as one of seven districts for constructing amusement parks in the state.

For this, the state Chief Minister N Biren Singh accompanied by ministers and officials visited S Kholian/Thingkeu village at Churachandpur under Henglep sub-division on Wednesday to lay foundation stones for the Amusement Cum Children Park to be constructed at Songpi Village with an estimated cost of INR 4.8 crore.

Biren Singh also laid foundation stone for Improvement/Upgradation of Henglep Thingkeu Tipaimukh Road (31.782 Km) with an work order amount of INR 75.94 crore besides inaugurating INR 57.28 lakh worth six Classrooms of Henglep High School and INR 73.67 lakh worth Transit Quarter (for Medical and Education Staff) both under Backward Block Development Fund and North Eastern Council.

Speaking on the occasion, Biren Singh said that the government’s ‘Go to Hills’ mission was launched after he became Chief Minister in 2017 and for which cabinet meetings were held at different district headquarters to review the progress of developmental works taken up in the areas.

He called Churachandpur as the luckiest district as a medical college with 100 seats of MBBS has been established, recognising the potential of the people of the district. For which, he appealed to the public to refrain from bandhs and strikes to express their grievance, but rather solve issues in talks. He further appealed to render support for the government’s initiatives in taking up different projects for the development of the district.

On road development work at Tipaimukh Road (NH-150), Biren requested the NHIDCL officials to make a proposal for widening the road into double lane as the locals had agreed not to take land compensation.

He also informed that an Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) would be constructed at the Henglep Headquarter citing its backwardness.

Regarding upgradation of the health centre and construction of a community hall at P Sejol village, he said that he will look into the matter.
