Manipur CM inspects new Covid care centre

Imphal, August 1 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh oversaw the preparations going on for opening of a new Covid care centre at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre located at Lamboikhongnangkhong area in Imphal west district on Saturday.

Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh and Health Minister L Jayantakumar also accompanied the chief minister during the inspection.

Singh expressed satisfaction on seeing the preparation work at the new Covid care centre which will initially have 300 beds, is almost ready for inauguration. He also checked the furnitures and other essentials including toilet facilities of all the blocks.

He also enquired the officials about electrification and power connections as well. Later, Singh directed the officials to keep the centre ready for admission of Covid patients by Sunday. As such, it is likely that the centre would start functioning within a couple of days.

However, Singh instructed the concerned officials to upgrade the centre to a 1000-bedded centre as it has enough space for extension. In the beginning, the centre will have four blocks.

In a tweet on Saturday, Singh said, “As more and more accommodation is needed in view of the increasing number of Covid positive patients in the state, went to inspect the condition of the new 300 bedded Covid care centre at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong, which will be functional in a few days.” High ranking officials of the state government including Dr. Rajesh Kumar, who has been given the charge of the chief secretary, also accompanied the chief minister’s inspection.
