Imphal, July 3 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh on Saturday inaugurated spring water harvesting, sustainable water and forest conservation project at Heingang, Kameng and Lamdeng at Chief Minister’s secretariat in Imphal.
The project was jointly undertaken by the Central Forest division, Forest department, government of Manipur and ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth.
Minister for Forest and Environment, Awangbow Newmai, MP Rajya Sabha, Leishemba Sanajaoba, Additional Chief Secretary, MH Khan, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Dr. AK Joshi of Forest department, Secretary to Chief Minister, Ningthoujam Geoffrey, president ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, Saurabh Singh, CEO ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, Anuj Agarwal and officials of Forest department and ICICI were present during the function.
Speaking at the virtual inaugural function, Chief Minister Biren Singh said that preservation and protection of forest areas is the need of the hour. The state government has undertaken various programmes and schemes for the conservation of forest in the state.
To address the issues of global warming, climate change and environmental degradation, the government has successfully implemented the Chief Minister’s Green Manipur Mission in the state. The mass tree plantations have been started in different parts of the state recently, he said.
Appreciating such initiative of the ICICI Foundation for providing potable water to the public, Biren Singh expressed his satisfaction over the project, which would benefit thousands of households in the state. He also suggested the Foundation to initiate reforestation projects in the hill areas of the state.
