Manipur CM inaugurates oxygen plant at JNIMS hospital

Imphal, May 28 (EMN): Close on the heels of inaugurating first oxygen plant in the hill districts, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday inaugurated a cryogenic liquid medical oxygen plant having a storage capacity of 10 KL at state run JNIMS hospital premises in Imphal East district.

Speaking on the occasion, Biren Singh said, the PSA oxygen plant in Churachandpur is now operational and a similar plant would also be inaugurated in Thoubal as well within a couple of days. He added that many of the hill districts would also have their own oxygen plants soon. In addition to this, Biren said, another cryogenic LMO plant of 20 KL capacity would be installed in Imphal at the earliest.

He further informed that the state now has around 4000 oxygen cylinders and over 1000 oxygen concentrators. Another ICU block having 70 beds with ventilators is also coming up at JNIMS complex soon, he said. With all these measures, the chief minister said, patients requiring oxygen would be quite manageable.

He also indicated that an 80-bedded dedicated Covid hospital for children below 15 years would be opened soon. He pointed out that that positive case among children is also on a steady rise, which according to him is a matter of concern

Maintaining that the central government has been providing prompt assistance whenever needed, he observed that the state should be thankful to the central leaders. Stating that adherence to standard operating procedure is the only means to defeat the pandemic, he also urged the people to pray for the wellbeing of doctors, nurses, para-medical staff, police, and all other frontline warriors.

Biren Singh also inaugurated a Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra where people could buy over 600 types of high quality generic medicines and 154 surgical products at affordable rates.

Later, in a tweet, Biren wrote, “It gives me immense pleasure to inaugurate the 10KL LMO Cryogenic Tank at JNIMS today. This plant will play a key role in meeting our oxygen demand at this juncture. Under PM @narendramodi Ji’s guidance, we have been able to ramp up crucial health infrastructure within record time.”

Later in the day, Biren Singh visited Chandel district headquarters to take stock of Covid-19 situation in the districts of Chandel and Tengnoupal. He had been visiting various districts of the state to review the situation of the pandemic and take up necessary measures to contain it.

Minister of Water Resources, Letpao Haokip, minister of Education, Sorokhaibam Rajen, advisor to chief minister (health) Dr. Sapam Ranjan, MLAs D Korungthang, M Rameshwar, principal secretary of health V Vumlunmang and other government officials accompanied the chief minister during the visit.
