Manipur CM fetes young judoka Linthoi

IMPHAL — Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh congratulated young judoka Linthoi Chanambam on being conferred the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Purashkar 2024, along with 18 other children by the President of India.

Sharing a video of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Purashkar distribution ceremony in his official X, Singh wrote: “Hearty congratulations to Judo champion Ms Linthoi Chanambam from Manipur on being conferred with the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Purashkar- 2024 by Hon’ble President, Smt Draupadi Murmu ji. There is no stopping for our sports persons and athletes in bringing laurels for the country. I wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”

This year’s awardees include one child each in the categories of Bravery, Science and Technology and Innovation, four in the category of Social Service, five in the category of Sports and seven in the category of Art and Culture.

Besides Linthoi, there are three more awardees from NE states. They are Jyotsna Aktar (Tripura), Saiyam Mazumder (Assam), both in social service, and Jesicca Neyi Saring (Arunachal) in Sports. The awards were distributed in New Delhi on January 22.

Seventeen-year-old Judoka Linthoi Chanambam became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Cadet Judo Championship in Sarajevo, Bosnia in 2022. Earlier, Linthoi also struck gold at the National Championships in Chandigarh, followed by another at the Asian Cadet and Junior Judo Championships in Bangkok.
