Imphal, Sep. 3 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday said that he has personally requested PM Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Education for the development of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (regional campus Manipur) into a full-fledged Central University.

Biren Singh was speaking at the launching and distribution function of medicinal plant saplings to households and farmers under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav ‘Ayush Aapke Dwar’ at CM’s Secretariat in Imphal on Friday.

He also mentioned that the Churachandpur Medical College would be functional as soon as the construction of a temporary campus. A 30-bedded hospital at Singhat is ready for inauguration.

Addressing the gathering, he lauded the support and cooperation of the people towards the government in the last four and half years. Maintaining that bandhs, strikes and insurgency problems are outdated, he said that the economy and law and order situation has improved in the state.

Mentioning the benefits of AYUSH medicine in curing various diseases and maintaining overall health, the chief minister said that there has been a tremendous increase of using AYUSH medicines and treatment in the last several years. He informed that different varieties of medicinal plants are found in the state.

Such plants have great health benefits and have been used since time immemorial. He said that the agricultural and horticultural products are of great demand outside the state as it has different taste, unique and higher nutritional value. The government is continuously helping the farmers to export their products outside the state, he stated.

‘Various welfare schemes and programmes have been implemented for inclusive development and subsidised loans are being provided to entrepreneurs, unemployed youths for sustainable livelihood under Start-Up schemes and by banks. I appeal to the media fraternity to maintain the ethics of journalism while reporting and publishing any sensitive issues, he added.
