IMPHAL — Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday called for unity across communities to restore peace in the state, stating that sustained engagement with legislators, officials and civil society over the past two months has reinforced the need for collective action.
Speaking at the inauguration of five development projects in Langthabal Assembly Constituency in Imphal West district, the chief minister said he has been reaching out to people in both hill and valley areas, including Jiribam, Senapati, Kangpokpi and Ukhrul districts, to address grievances and build trust.
He said interactions with different communities have reflected a strong desire for peace, even as he acknowledged that recent incidents had disrupted the process. He added that those responsible would be identified.
Appealing to the public to maintain harmony, Singh cautioned against elements attempting to create division and urged people to remain vigilant. He also assured that development activities would continue across all regions, including remote areas, despite prevailing challenges.

The projects inaugurated included three water supply schemes and two community halls aimed at improving basic infrastructure in the constituency.
Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, who attended the programme, said the chief minister’s outreach efforts, including visits to remote districts, have been widely appreciated. He said engaging directly with communities has helped build confidence in the leadership.
He also urged civil society organisations and the public to work together to maintain peace, stating that division would hinder progress and delay development.
Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam, in his address, said the newly inaugurated projects would benefit daily life in the area.
Senior officials, including Imphal West Deputy Commissioner M Rajkumar Singh, along with representatives of the Public Health Engineering Department, district administration, civil society organisations and local residents, attended the programme.
