Manipur celebrates 132nd Police Raising Day
IMPHAL — Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday announced that a women’s police battalion will be set up soon and that the ration money allowance for police personnel would be enhanced by INR 500 each.
Presently, the state has one women Indian reserve battalion while the ration money allowance is INR 2000.
Speaking at the 132nd Manipur Police Raising Day celebration at the 1st Manipur Rifles Parade ground, Imphal, Biren Singh acknowledged the role of the state police in not only maintaining law and order but also in the field of sports and other works like assistance in civic works in the state.
He said the government has been putting efforts to maintain quality and transparency in supplying uniforms or ration to the state police.
Informing that some of the arms and ammunition looted from the state police have been returned, he added that no case or FIR will be taken up against those voluntarily surrendering their illegal weapons.
Stressing on the issue of drug abuse, he said ‘War on Drugs’ campaign is not against any individual or community, but to safeguard and protect the present and future generations. He appealed to each and every personnel to put their full efforts in uprooting the drug menace from the society while stating that surveys are being conducted to identify poppy plantations at different locations even using drones and UAVs.
Singh extended his condolences to the 11 personnel including eight personnel of the Manipur Police, one from Assam Rifles and two from BSF who sacrificed their lives to protect lives, property and unity in the present crisis which began on May 3.
In his speech, DGP Manipur, Rajiv Singh while highlighting the history of the Manipur Police, said that 132nd year is an important milestone in the history of any institution.
He also spoke on the efforts taken up by the police with support from the central forces during the violence which started on May 3.
