Manipur Cabinet discusses setting up of cancer hospital

Imphal, April 22 (EMN): Manipur cabinet, during its first ever meeting after the formation of the new government last month, discussed setting up an international cancer hospital at Moreh, an important commercial hub, which borders Myanmar.

The step has been taken up as part of the Manipur government’s plan to develop Moreh as a gateway to south east Asia, an update informed.

The cabinet meeting held on Thursday evening with the newly formed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s Chief Minister, Nongthombam Biren Singh, also approved to create job opportunities and further develop the IT and ITES sector in Manipur and approved to adopt Manipur Information Technology Policy 2022 and IT SEZ policy 2022.

“Considering the strategic importance and opportunities for the state as a gateway to ASEAN under India’s Act East Policy, the cabinet approved the Manipur Integrated Logistics Policy 2022 to broaden and streamline the logistic infrastructure in the state”, informed the  chief minister’s secretariat on Thursday night.

The cabinet approved the amendment of Imphal municipal corporation building by-laws to facilitate orderly development.

The government approved the implementation of the Manipur Urban Area Transferable Development Rights Policy 2022 to promote land integrated and sustainable development of urban areas by providing facilities like affordable housing, parks, open spaces etc.

It approved the purchase of land for expansion of approach road and others to develop the Indian national army headquarter at Moirang, 45 km south of Imphal as a major tourist heritage site.

The cabinet also discussed selection of private partners on PPP mode to serve as a platform for cooperation and maintenance of assets of the Tourism department.

Interestingly, revising the VAT rate of Aviation Turbine Fuel to 1% for a period of 10 years, it informed that the cabinet also resolved to carry out Aadhaar linking for all financial assistance schemes implemented in the state to ensure the benefits of schemes reach the targeted beneficiaries.

Thursday’s cabinet meeting was attended by ministers Th Biswajit; Y Khemchand; Govindas Konthoujam; Nemcha Kipgen; Awangbow Newmai; Letpao Haokip; Dr. Sapam Ranjan; L Sushindro; Heikham Dingo; Thounaojam Basanta and Khasim Vashum.
