IMPHAL, NOVEMBER 6: Finally, Manipur enter the Guinness Book of World Records for fitting maximum number of hearing aid to 3911 beneficiaries at a single location in 8 hours record in Imphal, breaking the previous record by Gujarat earlier this year.
This was confirmed when a “symbolic certificate” from Guiness World Records was handed over to Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh in presence of his council of Ministers at CM’s secretariat here on Saturday night, sources in Imphal said.
Stating that it was a proud moment for all of us in Manipur to create such a world record, Chief Minister Ibobi also admitted that all credit must be given to our health services team for their seriousness on it.
According to Commissioner PK Singh of Manipur Health Services, as many as 3911 persons were fitted with hearing aid by 150 audiologists during the programme within 8 hours time and more than 5000 persons were fitted at the end of the programme.
The programme was organised by the Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness, National Health Mission, Manipur, in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, with a target to provide hearing aid to 6464 beneficiaries from nine districts of the state following a successful 49 camps organised across the State under National Health Mission during which more than 12,000 patients were screened. The total cost of the hearing aid was Rs 4.44 crores (sponsored by ALIMCO) while the state also spent a huge amount while preparing accommodation for more than 10,000 people for the programme.
This is the largest event of such a kind all over India and Manipur broke the earlier World Record created by Gujarat on September 17 this year by fitting hearing aid on 600 persons in 8 hours, he added.
