Kohima, June 12 (EMN): A truck driver ferrying goods for the Food Corporation of India (FCI) from Dimapur to Senapati in Manipur was found unconscious on Friday morning. The truck had been parked for the night above the New Reserve dairy farm in Kohima.
According to Dr. Asalie Khezhie, chairman of New Reserve colony in Kohima, the handyman, who had found the driver unconscious, informed the people in the area and the colony leaders passed on the information to the higher authorities, including superintendent of police (SP), Kohima at around 7 am.
The SP then informed the Health officials.
Khezhie told Eastern Mirror that the colony leaders had asked about the health status of the driver to the handyman, who informed them that he was suffering from fever since Thursday evening. The vehicle reportedly had ‘mechanical breakdown’ and stayed at the spot overnight during which the driver became unconscious and had difficulty in breathing.
At around 11 am, an ambulance from Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), now Covid-19 hospital, arrived at the spot to take the person for treatment but the driver and handyman of the ambulance, without proper personal protective equipment (PPE), couldn’t carry the patient as he was lying unconscious and could not get up.
A new team of healthcare workers later arrived in full PPE suits at around 12:14 pm and the patient was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, when this newspaper contacted NHAK, the hospital’s public information officer, Dr. Sentimeren Aonok, confirmed that the person had been kept in isolation ward, as samples had to be collected.
“He doesn’t look like a Covid-19 patient but with other health-related problems. We will have to wait and see,” he said.
The doctor also informed that further investigation about the person’s health condition is being carried out.
