Manipur bags 2nd place in Eastern India Powerlifting championship

IMPHAL, April 26

Manipur powerlifting team bagged the maximum number of gold medals in women competitions on the concluding day of the 3-day Eastern India Powerlifting Championship at Sports Authority of India-Special Area Games Hall, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal on Sunday.
Manipur women lifters bagged 5 gold medals while the lone gold medal in men’s competition was bagged by Md Amin Khan in 83kg category. The five gold medal winners of host team are Sh Reene (girls 43kg), N Romala (girls 47kg), K Homeshori (girls 57kg), Leima Chanu (girls 72kg) and K Roshida (girls 84kg).
With 7 gold medals, 2 each of silver and bronze medals, 16 member Assam powerlifting team bagged the top position in the medal tally of the championship.
The gold winner male lifters of Assam are Anurag Bharali (105kg), Biky Sharma (53kg), Ranjan Mazumdar (59kg), Abhijit Das (66kg), Azad Befare (74kg) while the gold medal winner female lifters are Upama Rai (63kg) and Moushumi (84kg).
West Bengal team was placed in third position with 2 gold medals. Mizoram team occupied the fifth position in medal tally with 4 silver and 4 bronze medals while Gauhati University team lifters got 2 silver and one bronze medal. Arunachal Pradesh’s lone gold medal winner was Ch Soniya (52kg).
The championship, which was organised by All Manipur Powerlifting Association (AMPA) under the supervision of Indian Powerlifting Federation, was participated by around 120 lifters from six prominent powerlifting teams including Mizoram, Assam, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Guwahati University and host Manipur.
