Imphal, April 17 (EMN): Under the guidance of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, a team led by Principal Secretary PK Singh, who is also the present Resident Commissioner of Manipur Bhawan, New Delhi, has started distributing “dry ration” to students and stranded people in the national capital.
When contacted, Singh informed that they had covered about 200 students in Gurgaon and 100 in Delhi three days ago. On April 15, they distributed dry ration to about 400 in Munirka area in Delhi, he said.
“Yesterday (April 16), we distributed it to more than 500 at Vijaynagar area in North Delhi," he said on Friday. "We're taking a break (on April 17) and trying to mobilise more supplies and start distribution again tomorrow (Saturday) for about 500 (people). So we are trying to identify the location based on numbers."
Each distributed packet contains 5 kg rice, 1 kg each dal, potato and onion besides 1 litre of cooking oil, face mask and sanitiser, said the senior state government officer, who was recently appointed as the state’s Nodal Officer to help and guide the stranded citizens of the state by contacting the concerned state governments. He added that they have collected information, including contact details of needy people from the state from almost 30 localities and are clubbing the groups and managing distribution.
Stating that they were planning to cover at least four to five thousand people, he said, “Let's hope more people donate. I am using my Bhawan vehicles and some willing staff and volunteers for distribution locality-wise.”
In March, the state government had launched a website (www.tengbang.in) to reach out to its citizens stranded in various states of the country after the nationwide lockdown. The state authority also introduced another website (www.mncovid19.in) in the beginning of this month to provide the latest and authenticated information on Covid-19. The CM had informed via Twitter on April 14 that “More than 17,000 persons , mainly students who are staying outside the state have registered online to tengbang.in with their concerns. The state government will help you with financial assistance within two-three days. Stay indoors and stay safe. We are always with you.”
