Manipur: Assam Rifles, Churachandpur Police recover narcotics

Imphal, April 21 (EMN): In a joint operation with 36 Assam Rifles, the Churachandpur district police recovered 70 soap cases containing narcotic substances, presumed to be brown sugar, from the possession of two individuals on the night of April 20.
Informing this, police sources said a joint team of police and Assam Rifles under the supervision of district Superintendent (SP), Shivanand Surve and Additional SP (Ops), Th Deshorjit, intercepted a Bolero (MN 01 G 0851) on getting the information that the vehicle was moving from Moreh towards Churachandpur carrying narcotic drugs.
The two occupants — Nemneihing Haokip (32) and Robert Hmar (23) — hailed from Moreh in Tengnoupal district. The vehicle was searched in the presence of civil witnesses, which led to the recovery of the drugs. The items were sealed as per procedure and sampling would be done before the magistrate.
A case has been registered under section 21/29/60(3) Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act for further investigation, it added.
In another development, a joint team of churachandpur police and 31 Assam Rifles under the supervision of district SP, Surve and Additional SP (Ops), Dishorjit arrested self-styled secretary (External Affairs) of the Hmar People’s Convention (HPC- Democratic) with a pistol and five of his associates on April 20 afternoon.
The arrest was made when the joint security team intercepted two vehicles at Rengkai Bridge at about 5:25 pm. On checking the vehicles, the team detected one SIG SAUER P3 20 SP 9 mm Pistol made in the USA, two magazines cartridges with 12 live rounds and seven live rounds each from the possession of Alan Hmar (29) of Edenthar veng, Rengkai.
On interrogation Alan revealed that he purchased the pistol from Moreh.
His five associates, who were also arrested have been identified as Sanga Hmar alias Ramhlunsang (40) of Senvon (Pherzawl district) but presently staying at Rengkai (Zote Veng); Samuel Hmar (21) of Rengkai, Eden Thar Veng; David Lalenglien (32) of Muolvaiphei, Churachandpur; Lalramthar (35) of Saikot and Nehemiah Lalringum(33) of Muolvaiphei, all in Churachandpur district.
A case under section 400/506/34 Indian Penal Code and 25(1-C) Arms Act has been registered, police added.
