Manipur: Art & Culture minister releases INR 57,50,000 to five autonomous districts

Imphal, Aug. 16 (EMN): The Manipur Art & Culture Minister Langpoklakpam Jayantakumar Singh on Aug. 16 handed over cheques amounting to INR 57,50,000 to five Autonomous District Councils(ADC) of the state, according to DIPR Manipur sources in Imphal.

The ADCs include Chandel, Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Senapati.

The cheques were distributed under the Art & Culture Department, government of Manipur in the presence of the media persons at the conference hall of the minister at old Secretariat Complex in Imphal.

Speaking at the occasion Jayantakumar said that the government is committed to develop and promote art and cultural activities of the state which is indigenous in nature. He said that despite financial constraints of the state the art and culture department is initiating all possible measures to boost the rich art and culture of the state.

Each ADC received two different cheques bearing a value of INR 7 lakh for development of District Library and INR 4.50 lakh for development of indigenous form of art and culture, the minister said. The amount has been released for the financial year 20018-19.

The minister also assured that the amount would be increased in the coming years.

Director A Shivdas Sharma of Art & Culture, Joint Director Kesorjit Singh of the same directorate, representatives and officials from ADCs were also present at the occasion.
