Imphal, April 30 (EMN): In a move to mitigate hazards of earthquake in the natural disaster prone state of Manipur, architects community in the state on Sunday discussed the core issues of designing a house right from the conceptual stage including the soil investigation etc.
The discussion was held during the day long seminar on awareness in earthquake resistant construction under the aegis of Manipur Architects’ Forum (MAF) at Lamyanba shanglen hall in Imphal.
Architect Loitongbam Mangi Singh was chief guest of the inaugural function while Thangjam Joykumar Singh was moderator. In the day’s technical session, MK Rahman highlighted the importance of soil investigation in high seismic zone through a power point presentation while President MAF Architech B Krishna Kumar Sharma talks on architectural importance in earthquake resistance design. A Narendradhwaja and Th Joykumar also shared thoughts on ductile detailing of RCC building and mitigation of non-structural elements during earthquake. The day’s seminar which was participated many young architects of the state was organised in view of the rapid urbanisation and population explosion in the state of Manipur which lies in seismic zone V. The state had witnessed a powerful quake measuring 6.7 in Richter scale on January 4 last year which claimed lives besides destroying many houses and structures.
