Imphal, Aug. 29 (EMN):
The Manipur government on Sunday extended financial assistance of INR  5 lakh to India's ace footballer, Ngangom Bala Devi for her knee surgery in Kolkata.

Confirming this, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a tweet on Sunday wrote, "The State Government has extended a financial assistance of INR 5 lakh to our Manipuri footballer Ngangom Bala Devi for her knee surgery in Kolkata. Bala was recently named as the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Women’s Footballer of the Year 2020-21".

The All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) recently congratulated Bala Devi for being named as the AIFF Women's Footballer of the year 2020-21. Striker Bala Devi, a resident of Irengbam, a village in Manipur’s Bishnupur district made history, when she became the first Indian woman to become a professional footballer and sign a contract with Scotland’s Rangers football club in February last year.

Moreover, acknowledging her contribution, Bala who was appointed as a constable in Manipur Police in 2010, was recently promoted as inspector in the Manipur Police department.
