The CPR training segment equipped participants with basic life support skills and emergency response techniques that can play a crucial role in saving lives during cardiac emergencies before medical assistance arrives.
Nagaland and the larger Northeastern region are witnessing a steady rise in lifestyle-related disorders, neurological conditions, cardiac diseases, and cancer cases, increasing the demand for specialised healthcare services and timely interventions.
Despite improving healthcare infrastructure in the region, many patients continue to travel outside the state for advanced treatment and super-speciality care. Through its advanced multidisciplinary expertise and comprehensive treatment facilities in Kolkata, Manipal Hospitals continues to support patients from the Northeast with accessible and specialised medical care closer to home.
Speaking on the importance of early intervention in neurological disorders, Dr. Harsh Jain said that neurological emergencies such as brain stroke, head injuries, and spinal disorders require immediate medical attention, as delays can severely affect recovery and outcomes.
He noted that stroke cases are rising in Northeast India due to factors like hypertension, tobacco use, sedentary lifestyles, and lack of awareness about early symptoms.
He also highlighted the growing need for timely access to specialised neuro-care, adding that Manipal Hospitals Kolkata offers advanced neurosurgical treatment, neuroimaging, minimally invasive procedures, multidisciplinary care, and rehabilitation services.
Speaking on gynaecological cancers, Dr. Arunava Roy said cancers of the cervix, ovary, and uterus remain a major health concern for women, with delayed diagnosis often affecting treatment outcomes.
He stressed the importance of regular screening and early intervention, while highlighting advancements such as robotic-assisted and minimally invasive surgeries.
Highlighting the rising burden of cardiovascular diseases, Dr. Arya Chaudhuri said heart diseases account for nearly one-third of all deaths in India, with delayed hospital arrival during heart attacks remaining a major concern.
He emphasised that CPR administered within the first few minutes of cardiac arrest can significantly improve survival chances, while noting that awareness regarding bystander CPR and emergency response remains limited in several parts of Northeast India.
Speaking on the importance of CPR training and emergency preparedness, Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty said immediate action during medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, choking, drowning, or collapse can save lives before professional medical help arrives.
He emphasised that CPR is a simple yet effective life-saving skill that everyone should learn, adding that initiatives like ‘Anveshana’ aim to create more confident first responders and build a better-prepared community.
The initiative has already been conducted across several cities and regions, including Aizawl, Agartala, Arunachal Pradesh, Jamshedpur, Darjeeling, and now Nagaland.
The session also witnessed the launch of the Media Privilege Card, a special initiative designed to offer journalists enhanced healthcare access and exclusive benefits across Manipal Hospitals’ facilities, further strengthening the institution’s engagement with the media fraternity and community stakeholders.
