Dimapur, June 1 (EMN): Community organisations in Mangkolemba subdivision in Mokokchung district are appealing to the Nagaland government to make into an all-weather road a 11 km highway that is said to connect Mangkolemba town and other villages to the Mariani-Mokokchung road, NH 702-D, at Longnak.
A meeting of community organisations in Mangkolemba subdivision was conducted on May 24 in the town's hall.
The meeting was convened by the Mangkolemba Ao Lanur Telongjem (Malt), a press release from the organisation on Saturday, stated.
'Hohos' and students’ groups from the three ranges of the region namely Jangpetkong, Japukong and Tsurangkong; and members of the Mangkolemba Town Council and leaders of the town's nine wards attended the meeting, the press release stated.
"Of the many pertaining acute problems and issues discussed which the people of the subdivision are facing, the 11 km road that connects Mangkolemba town and many villages to the Mariani-Mokokchung road (NH 702-D) at Longnak was deliberated at length," the organisation stated.
"The meeting resolved to appeal the state government to provide an all-weather road at the earliest by blacktopping and constructing proper drainage along the 11 km road as it is the lifeline for the people of these areas."
The Malt asserted that the government had neglected this "all important road for more than two decades and only the public and various nongovernmental organisations have been repairing the road with soil and pebbles from time to time."
'The road is in pathetic condition and require urgent attention and action from the government,' the press release added.
