Man sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for killing minor in Nagaland

Dimapur, Sep. 29 (EMN): The Court of Principal Sessions Judge cum Special Judge, Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, has convicted a 22-year-old man to 10 years simple imprisonment (SI) for killing a minor at Old Tsadang village, Longkhim, Tuensang district.

The accused, Longdili, who was in a relationship with the victim, was convicted on Sep. 26 for criminal use of force and culpable homicide, not amounting to murder.

The incident had occurred on Dec. 31, 2019 and a first information report (FIR) was filed by Tsadang Village Council on Jan. 2, 2020.

According to the verdict, the accused attempted to conceal the body after causing injury to the victim, thus leading to her death. On post-mortem of the body, the victim was also found to be pregnant with a 16-18 week foetus.

The accused was sentenced to undergo 10 years SI and a fine of INR 10,000 for committing offences under section 304 of India Penal Code (IPC) and section 4 of POCSO Act; and two months for committing offences under section 352 of IPC. In default of payment of fine, he would further undergo one year of simple imprisonment.

The court further awarded compensation of INR 5,00,000 to the family of the victim and directed the government of Nagaland to sanction the amount within 30 days from the date of receipt of the judgement.
