A Kohima court sentences 39-year-old man to four years of rigorous imprisonment for culpable homicide.

DIMAPUR — A Kohima court has sentenced a 39-year-old man to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of INR 5,000 for the offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with a 2021 killing at Jotsoma village.
According to a press release, Principal District and Sessions Judge Mezivolu T Therieh, by an order issued on Friday, convicted accused Raju Rao under Section 304 Part II of the Indian Penal Code for causing the death of Ninaju Raj Bangshi (37).
The court sentenced the convict to undergo rigorous imprisonment for four years and to pay a fine of INR 5,000. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo simple imprisonment for one year.

After considering the oral, medical and documentary evidence placed on record, the court found the accused guilty under Section 304 Part II IPC, the release stated. The investigation in the case was conducted by UBSI Tsalamo Odyou of Sechu Zubza Police Station, Kohima.
During the trial, six prosecution witnesses were examined. The State was represented by L Sashimongla Jamir, Special Public Prosecutor, who successfully established the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt, it added.
