Man arrested in Mokokchung for alleged rape of minor
MOKOKCHUNG — Police in Mokokchung have arrested a man in connection with the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Saring village, Longchem sub-division.
The incident reportedly occurred on Aug. 10 at the victim’s neighbour’s house. The accused, identified as 33-year-old Moakaba Aier, a resident of Akumen, was apprehended by Mokokchung Police on Sunday.
According to the victim’s father, the child disclosed the incident to him, after which he examined her and discovered evidence supporting her account. The matter was immediately brought before the Saring Village Council, where the accused reportedly confessed to the crime. The council then handed Aier over to the police.
An FIR was lodged at Longchem Police Station at 3:00 am on Sunday, and a team from the Women Police Station in Mokokchung visited Saring village to conduct a spot inspection and gather evidence.
The victim, accompanied by her mother, a relative, and the Nagaland Women Police, was taken to Mokokchung for a medical examination.
Accompanied by Nagaland Women Police, the victim, along with her mother and the relative, has been rushed to Mokokchung today for further medical examination and investigation, the father added.
Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Mokokchung and Public Relations Officer (PRO) Y Tumchobemo Yathan confirmed the arrest and stated that the accused had undergone a medical examination. Police interrogation is underway.
A preliminary report on the incident is expected to be released by the police on Aug. 12.
