Dimapur, May 3 (EMN): Entrepreneurs and traders are urged to ‘focus on the challenges of export and import for development’ of Nagaland state and the north east. They can do so by ‘making quality local products that can compete with others on a global level,’ a local legislator told a business seminar in Dimapur recently.
A seminar that sought to discuss the opportunities and challenges in foreign trade was conducted on May 3 at Hotel Acacia under the aegis of Confederation of Indian Industry. Parliamentary Secretary for Higher &Technical Education Deo Nukhu attended the inaugural session of the event as the chief guest. In his address, he urged upon the entrepreneurs and traders to ‘focus on the challenges of export and import for development’ of Nagaland state and the north east ‘by making quality local products that can compete with others on a global level.’ The politician has requested the departments and agencies in concern to ‘find global markets for export of products.’
Deo Nukhu talked about the policy of the government to connect India to Thailand via Myanmar ‘with international highway and better air connectivity.’ The parliamentary secretary felt that the prospect of increasing the volume of trade and commerce ‘was not far away for potential entrepreneurs and traders.’
Terming the ongoing seminar as an eye opener, Deo Nukhu was hopeful that it would create an interface for key stakeholders ‘for general awareness on the issues which can provide the much needed impetus towards the growth of international trade, particularly in the South East region.’
The commissioner and secretary for Veterinary & Animal Husbandry MK Mero also addressed the gathering. He observed that the north east region possesses ‘plenty of fertile soil for cultivation of various agriculture and horticulture products.
The general manager of Export Import Bank of India, Deepali Agarwal, delivered the keynote address.
