- MOKOKCHUNG — A
fire broke out in the early hours of Friday inside a sawmill in Tsusapang Sector,
Mokokchung, opposite the Chuchuyimpang village gate, reducing the fully stocked
facility to ashes.
- The blaze consumed vast quantities of lumber, logs, and
machinery, leaving behind an estimated loss of INR 2 crore, according to the
mill’s proprietor, Tajungnukshi. No casualty was reported in the incident.

- “The sawmill was fully stocked with timber, which fuelled
the fire and caused it to engulf the entire stockpile, including machinery,”
Tsukru stated. Despite the intensity, responders managed to salvage some timber
and prevent the flames from spreading to nearby residences, he added.
- The firefighting effort, which lasted approximately four
hours, required relentless coordination and resources. Tsukru noted that the
fire tenders made around 15 trips to refill water supplies before the blaze was
fully contained.
- He praised the collaborative response from Assam Rifles
personnel, civilian volunteers, and Mokokchung Police, who provided critical
support with water tankers during the crisis. “Their prompt action was
instrumental in controlling the situation,” he added.
- The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with
authorities yet to determine the origin of the blaze.
