Dimapur, May 25 (EMN): The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) hosted the first Thungchano Tsanglao Academic Excellence Award for toppers of the recently declared high school and higher secondary examinations, from the Lotha community, on May 25 at the LTC hall in Wokha.
The academic award was instituted in memory of Lt. Thungchano Tsanglao, who was known for her contribution to education. The award carries a cash award of INR 15, 000 and a citation.
Speaking at the awards function, the toppers attributed their success to hard work and constant support and prayer from their parents.
Wokha’s subdivision officer (civil) Chonbenthung Ezung told the gathering during the programme that ‘education is one single weapon that can make you achieve your goal as well as make you the best person.’ He urged the students to always remember that only education can help them and to give their all to achieve their goals.
Ezung lauded the family members of the late Tsanglao for the noble initiative and encouraging the students. Congratulating the toppers in different categories for their success and bringing laurels to the Lotha community,
Ezung advised them to have “proper planning and vision as they start preparing for their future.”
The chairman of the Lotha Hoho, Mhondamo Ovung, also wished the students good health and wisdom as they begin planning for their future. He urged them to continue to work hard. He appealed to the parents to shape their children in the right path, saying that good upbringing is important in shaping the future of a person.
Rev. LK Tsanglao offered the prayers of blessing for the students at awards.
Thungchano Tsanglao, who was married to Dr. LT Tsanglao, was a person who believed in the power of education as a tool to uplift the society. For more than a decade, she committed to teaching. She served as a teacher in both private and mission schools.
Tsanglao graduated from the government high school of Wokha (Assam Education Board) in 1964, graduated from Mt. Tiyi College of Wokha in 1981 and graduated B.Ed from SCERT in Kohima in 1988.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution and professionalism in the field of education and for her service and commitment to social cause, the Government of Nagaland honoured her with district award by the department of School Education in 2002 and distinguished senior citizen award.
