IMPHAL — In tribute to Lieutenant Colonel (Late) Robert TA, the Assam Rifles inaugurated the 3rd edition of the Lt. Col. (Late) Robert TA Memorial Football Tournament in Senapati district on Saturday.

Robert TA was the first army officer from the Maram community and he sacrificed his life in an avalanche in North Sikkim on May 14, 2020, while leading a patrol.

Besides honouring his sacrifice, the tournament aims to foster the spirit of sportsmanship and unity, said Inspector General Assam Rifles (IGAR) East  in a statement. P Chingpai, the wife of Robert TA, unveiled the trophies to mark the opening of the tournament.

The event showcased performances by the Assam Rifles Pipe Band, Jazz Band, and Alamlai and Namrita Rai, as mentioned in the statement.
