LRD organises training for rubber farmers

Rubber plantation has become popular among the farmers for its high growth potentiality in Dimapur district and keeping in mind the need for updating the basic practices of rubber cultivation, Department of Land Resources has organised a one day training cum demonstration on March 25.
Resource person, Aoyanger, WDT, presented a power point on “Management of rubber nursery and plantation of rubber trees” and illustrated in detail the system of secondary rubber management and method of rubber plantation. He gave a brief demonstration on selection of polythene bag, how to raise budded stumps in poly bags, filling of soil in poly bag, land preparation, pit preparation and planting method. He also demonstrated the farmers how to differentiate false shoot sprouting from the stock which has to be removed and reminded that regular inspection should be made to make sure that only one vigorous shoot is allowed to grow. The resource person also advised the farmers to practice intercropping of short term agri and horti crops with rubber which would help them in economic return.
Altogether 40 participants from different villages under Dhansiripar block attended the programme. The training concluded successfully with positive response from the participants.
