LRD distributes rubber coffee machines to farmers in Peren

Dimapur, May 6 (EMN): With an objective to encourage farmers towards promoting local coffee, enhance productivity and sustainable farming, department of Land Resources, Peren division, gave away 15 nos of rubber sheet roller machines and 15 nos of coffee pulping machine to the farmers during a programme held at DPO’ office in Jalukie town on May 6.

A DIPR report stated that the project was funded by the North East Council (NEC).

The special guest and additional deputy commissioner of Jalukie, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, handed over the machines to the farmers.

Speaking at the programme, Chang expressed that Peren district has immense scope and potential for rubber and coffee plantation owing to the favourable agro-climatic conditions. He also stressed on the importance of rubber and coffee Plantation as a sustainable crop to generate local economy and enhance their livelihood.

He encouraged the farmers to focus on mass quantity production and also channelise their products across the globe. He also lauded the department for mobilising the farmers and providing continuous support, intellectual resource and guidance by systematically implementing the works.

Also speaking at the programme Alemla Aier, district project officer, encouraged the farmers to put in extra efforts and go for plantations on a larger scale. She added that rubber and coffee plantations have the potential to promote eco-tourism and provide more avenues for self employment thereby generating more income which would go directly to the villagers.
