Dimapur, May 7 (EMN): Department of Land Resources (LRD) organised a distribution programme of coffee pulper machines to the coffee growers of Wokha district at the office of the LDR district project officer on May 6, which were given away by the deputy commissioner of Wokha, Orenthung Lotha, as the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC described the Land Resources department as a result oriented department where various developmental activities are taking place throughout the year to uplift the economy of the farmers. He encouraged the coffee growers to work hard and make a mark in the global map as coffee producing area, a DIPR report stated.
While citing Wokha as “The Land of Plenty,” he stated that huge quantity of local produce such as green vegetables and fruits were sent to other districts like Kohima and Dimapur on behalf of the district task force during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. He also urged them to share their experiences and expertise to others for better coordination and implementation of any department related activities in the district.
The DPO of Wokha Tepunol Yore, in his introductory note, informed that Wokha district has a total area of 684 hectares under coffee plantation covering 568 households in 68 villages and placed in the category of “progressive coffee farmers.” He added that 46 villages have already reached fruits bearing stage taking the total to 206 hectares of the total area in the district.
Altogether, 52 coffee pulper machines funded by North Eastern Council (NEC) were distributed to the coffee growers in the district.
Thunjamo Erui of Sanis and Zubenthung Murry of Wokha village, while sharing their experiences on behalf of the beneficiaries, have appreciated and acknowledged the department for their commendable services to the public.
Report also stated that one David Odyuo has asked all the coffee growers to make the best use of the machines and cooperate with the department for theirs better tomorrow.
