DIMAPUR — With an aim to equip students with strategies for academic success, Loyola Higher Secondary School (LHSS) in Kiphire conducted an orientation and motivational session for students of Classes 10, 11 and 12 on Friday.
An update stated that the session began with a welcome speech delivered by the school’s principal, Rev. Fr. Philip Magh, while the vice principal, Rev. Fr. Marius Patton, said the opening prayer. It was followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolising the dispelling of ignorance.
The resource person, Rev. Fr. Thomas Toretkiu, who spoke on the theme “How to succeed in life?” said success comes through hard work, practiced via the 3Rs: Read, Write, and Recite.

Emphasising consistency in studies, he urged students to invest 4 to 5 hours daily in focused academic work to excel in HSLC and HSSLC examinations. To reinforce his point, he reflected on the journeys of Nagaland’s 2026 NBSE toppers namely Aman Kumar, HSLC topper; Keleno Thorie, HSSLC Arts stream topper; Shreya Debnath, HSSLC Commerce stream topper; and Menguhaankum Chang, HSSLC Science stream topper.
Fr. Toretkiu evaluated key elements behind their success: consistent studying, spending quality time on each subject, conceptual understanding, motivation and strong support from family and teachers. He also advised students against comparison with peers.
“Never compare yourself to others. Study at your own pace and always believe in yourself,” he said, strongly recommending that self-belief is essential to achieving one’s goals.
The programme concluded with a prayer over the students, seeking guidance and strength for the academic year ahead.
