Dimapur, September 24: Kohima Lotha Eloe Ekhung (KLEE) has strongly supported 33% reservation for women in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and expressed gratitude to the Lotha menfolk for their support and confidence reposed on them.
KLEE reiterated the support for 33% reservation for women on the occasion of its silver jubilee celebration held on September 24 at the State Academy Hall, Kohima on the theme ‘Rediscovering the strength of women.’
Speaking on the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary of Labour Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Border Affairs and the chief guest, Mmhonlumo Kikon, has strongly advocated for women’s rights. He said violation of women’s rights tantamount to violation of human rights adding that knowledge and rights have no discrimination between men and women.
Observing that there could be many challenges by living in the State capital amidst multi-community and multi tribal society, he encouraged the Lotha women to mould their children in the right perspective so that they become assets for the society. He also urged upon every Lotha woman to actively participate in the KLEE forum.
Also encouraging the Lotha women to preserve culture, Mmhonlumo reminded that "Culture is rich and it can also make you rich."
Mmhonlumo Kikon lauded KLEE for their many contributions rendered for the welfare of the society and the Lotha women in particular and further encouraged them to march forward together in unity even in future.
Chairperson of Indian Red Cross Society, Abeni TCK, in her exhortation, dwelt on the strength of women. She said God has bestowed immense strength to the womenfolk in the form of love, gracefulness, bravery and fear of God.
Commenting on the limitless strength of women, Abeni reminded the gathering to thank God for His kindness. She further called upon them to change their mindset and march ahead with the spirit of inclusiveness.
First president of KLEE, Lochumlo Yanthan, extended greetings on the occasion.
‘Let us retrospect our life; revive our hearts and mind and gear up thus looking forward to celebrate 50 years of KLEE,’ she said.
KLEE president, Arhoni Kikon, in her introductory speech, informed that KLEE was established in the year 1991. Presently, there are 2263 members under KLEE comprising of 860 girl students, 302 graduates, 419 employed both in government and private sectors and 670 unemployed female members, she said. She further informed that KLEE is affiliated to Kyong Lotha Eloe Hoho, which is the apex women body and Naga Mothers' Association.
In the programme, Pastor of KLBC Rev. Mhathung blessed all the Lotha women through prayer, while a moment of silence was observed in remembrance of the departed souls who served KLEE during the last 25 years followed by prayer by women pastress KLBC, Nyanchumi Kithan.
Yachumaro Cultural Club and Cuckoo Cultural Club presented cultural songs. Brotherhood Group also added more colours to the programme with a special rendition.
Lotha womenfolk both young and old dressed in colourful traditional attires attended the programme.
