The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) will be observing ‘Black Day’ on April 14. The union has been observing April 14 as Black Day every year in fond memory of Lt. Chumdamo Tungoe & Lt. Thungkhomo Ezung who laid down their precious lives on this day, 1977 in police firing during a student procession organised by the Lotha Student Union in protest against the manhandling of the then SDO (Civil) Ngurkhuma Mizo by the Assam Police and Assam Forest Guards.
Coinciding with the Black Day, the inaugural function of the 17th Martyr’s Trophy 2016 will be held at local ground Wokha.
LSU general secretary, T. Phyobemo Kikon, in a press release informed all the educational institutions within Wokha town to send their students starting from class 5 and above to inaugural function.
Further, all the educational institutions have been informed to declare holiday by observing a minute of silent prayer for the departed souls.
The union further informed all the range/circle students union to see that all the schools within its jurisdiction observed the day.
