DIMAPUR — The Lotha civil society organisations (CSOs) have decided to extend the suspension period of bandh along the National Highway – 2 following the arrival of as many as 14 workers at the worksite of the road stretch.

In a joint press release issued on Saturday, the CSOs informed that the decision was taken in the hope that the contractor, M/S TTC Infra India Pvt. Ltd., may soon resume work along the NH 2 from 72.4 km to 83.00 km, in view of some workers having already arrived.

However, they said the extension of bandh suspension is “conditionally” and subject to re-imposition (if work is not resumed).

Asserting that “the demolition of majority of the compensated/paid structures along the stretch of the concerned National Highway” was done with the support of the entire Lotha community, the CSOs said the contractor and the National Highway authorities are expected to resume the work.

Assuring its co-operation and safety of workers, the Lotha organisations said that it would take action on anyone who harasses the workers in any way. It also urged everyone to support the CSOs, government authorities and the contractor in implementing the road project work as per the specifications.

“The National Highway supervisory officials are asked to be at work site round the clock, unlike in the past, which necessitated the CSOs to involve themselves,” read the press release.

The Lotha CSOs had earlier this week suspended the bandh till February 17, the deadline the officials had set for the contractor to resume the road construction work.
