Lorde is curating a new wave sound for the soundtrack for the next “Hunger Games” movie.
Sources tell us the “Royals” singer is recruiting Grace Jones, Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon, Diplo and Charli XCX — known for singing the hit song “Boom Clap” from “The Fault in Our Stars” soundtrack — to sing tracks on “Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1,” due to drop in November.
The 17-year-old Lorde has been charged with handpicking every artist that appears on the soundtrack in addition to penning her own song, “Yellow Flicker Beat,” which was released on Monday.
The singer wrote on her Tumblr feed of the track: “It’s my first offering from what I hope will be a soundtrack you love. It’s my attempt at getting inside her head, Katniss’,” referring to Jennifer Lawrence’s character in the film.
Lorde also admitted in the same Tumblr post this past week that work was almost completed on the hotly anticipated soundtrack, to be released by Republic Records: “We are almost at the end, the point where this soundtrack gets taken away from me and becomes something real,” she wrote. “I’m reminded of this day last year, when [her debut album] ‘Pure Heroine’ came out in this country. The feeling of something very solitary that I had worked on spinning around and around further away from me, becoming someone else’s, everyone’s.”
Page Six previously reported that Kanye West is recording a song with Lorde, and we hear their song could end up on the “Hunger Games: Mockingjay” soundtrack.
Lorde first contributed to the “Hunger Games” franchise with a song for last year’s “Catching Fire” soundtrack, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.”
Previous contributors to “Hunger Games” albums include Taylor Swift, Christina Aguilera and Coldplay. Fans are wondering if they will return to contribute a song to this soundtrack, given band leader Chris Martin is dating “Hunger Games” heroine Lawrence.
