MOKOKCHUNG — The Longsa Village Council has issued an urgent appeal to the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung, calling for strict regulation and monitoring of vehicular movement across the ageing Dikhu Bailey Bridge along National Highway-202 (Mokokchung-Tuensang Road).
In a letter to the DC on Wednesday, the council highlighted the bridge’s deteriorating condition and the need for immediate action to ensure commuter safety from the hazards posed by its current state.

The council highlighted that the bridge was constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in the 1960s and serves as a vital economic lifeline connecting Mokokchung with neighbouring districts, designed to support a maximum load of eight tons.
It, however, stated that the structure is now in a dilapidated state, beyond human repair, and at risk of collapsing under the weight of heavy vehicles.
The council has urged the deployment of police personnel to enforce weight limits on vehicles crossing the bridge, aiming to prevent potential disasters and avert blame for any negligence.
The Longsa Village Council expressed hope that the deputy commissioner will take swift and necessary action in response to this genuine plea.
