Longleng partially lifts ban on import of pigs from outside Nagaland

Dimapur, Nov. 20 (EMN): The Longleng district administration has partially lifted the ban on import of pigs which was initiated by the government of Nagaland in April this year due to African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in some states.

The district administration has notified that ‘ban on import of healthy and certified pigs from Punjab and Haryana except Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and states having cases of ASF is partially lifted with immediate effect’.

This was in pursuance of the government’s partial modification of its previous order through a notification issued on September 15, according to an update from DIPR.

License holders and transporters of pigs should strictly adhere to the following SOPs:

– The transit animals are not disembarked in any place for any purpose within Assam; the vehicles do not have any stop over point within Assam unless it is of utmost necessity; no animal waste or animal carcass is thrown out of the vehicles of the transit route; transit vehicles travelling through infected areas of ASF are to be disinfected at the exit points of the infected zone and the exit of the surveillance zone and the disinfection related cost have to be borne by the transporters or the supplier.

– Violation of SOPs shall lead to confiscation of the animals with fines as determined by the confiscating authority.

– Record of each animal, animal transporter with license number and vehicle number, name of the consignee is to be kept at each inter-district check posts and will be forwarded to the directorate of A.H & Veterinary department Assam.

– The transporters or license holders should report to the respective CVOs with details.

The update further informed that all safety measures should be followed and cleanliness in the market maintained.
