Longleng, Mon brace for rain as thunderstorms loom across Nagaland

DIMAPUR — More rain is expected across parts of Nagaland over the next four days, with Longleng, Mon and Mokokchung forecast to receive the highest cumulative rainfall, according to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).

The weather outlook for September 15 to 18 puts cumulative rainfall at 42.96 mm in Longleng, 40.66 mm in Mon and 34.80 mm in Mokokchung. Tuensang is forecast to receive 26.99 mm, followed by Noklak at 26.85 mm and Wokha at 22.88 mm.

Shamator and Zunheboto are expected to receive 17.78 mm and 17.10 mm respectively over the four-day period.

For September 15, the NSDMA has forecast light to moderate rain in Longleng, Mokokchung and Mon, while thunderstorms and lightning with rain are likely in Noklak and Tuensang. Dimapur, Peren and Phek may also experience thunderstorms and lightning.

On September 16, thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rain are expected in Longleng and Mon. Several other districts, including Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Noklak, Tuensang and Wokha, are likely to experience thunderstorms and light rain.

The authority has forecast no active weather warning across the State on September 17.

On September 18, thunderstorms and lightning with light rain are expected in Noklak, Phek, Shamator and Zunheboto, while Kiphire and Meluri may experience thunderstorms and lightning. Light rain is forecast in Mon and Tuensang.

The NSDMA has advised residents to monitor the latest weather updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and its Weather Portal, and to follow official advisories. It also urged the public to exercise caution during thunderstorms and periods of rainfall.
