Dimapur, Sep. 4 (EMN): An exhibition for farmers and an award ceremony for farmers were conducted on September 3 in Longleng. Subdivision officer (civil) D Robin was the chief guest of the programme, updates stated.

The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) gave on Wednesday updates about the programme.

Addressing the farmers on behalf of the deputy commissioner, Robin lauded the agriculture agencies in the district for organising the programme and providing technical assistance on water conservation to farmers. He expressed hope that the scheme would be successful and fruitful for the people of Longleng.

Robin said that the Jal Shakti Abhiya (JSA) is an initiative of the central government. He said Longleng district is fortunate to be ‘selected on priority’ from among many districts of Nagaland in the JSA programme.

The IPR reported: “To ensure proper implementation of JSA scheme in the district,” he said, “the central team has been constantly visiting Longleng district holding various programme meat different levels including field visits and at the same time the line departments have been busy with the JSA programme with dedication ever since the programme was launched in the district.”

The officer pointed out also that Longleng district has been facing acute water scarcity ‘due to lack of proper conservation of water’ in the district. He called upon the gathered farmers to work as a team with the line departments, the IPR stated. They were urged to extend all cooperation and support for effective implementation of the JSA programme to eradicate the problem of water scarcity in the district.

Likewise, he urged the farmers to ‘produce more organic local products to boost the rural economy’ and to secure health benefits.

The special guests of the programme were Minga Sherpa, assistant secretary to Government of India and Dharam Raj, assistant secretary to Government of India, the updates stated.

Some of the highlights of the daylong programme included a session of feedback by progressive farmers, and a farmers’ award session by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency of Longleng. The dignitaries gave away the farmers’ award to Pangnyei Phom of Pongo village, L Sungsang Phom of Alayong village and M Wanmei Phom of Tangha village, the IPR stated.
