Longleng district organises programmes to commemorate World Glaucoma Week.

DIMAPUR — Commemorating World Glaucoma Week, the Longleng District Health Society (DHS) organised a programme at the premises of District Hospital (DH) on Friday on the theme “Uniting for a glaucoma-free world.”
An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Longleng, stated that the programme was chaired by Baulen, data manager of OST, and the invocation prayer was said by Bingmei, NCD counselor.

During the programme, Dr. Thejavituo Kire, junior eye specialist at DH Longleng, delivered a brief and informative speech on glaucoma, highlighting the importance of early detection, regular eye check-ups and awareness of the disease to prevent vision loss.
He informed that glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness but could be managed effectively if detected early. He also spoke on the symptoms, risk factors, prevention and treatment of glaucoma.
The programme was aimed at encouraging the community to undergo regular eye examinations and seek timely medical care.
